History
Over the course of the Techfests and other cultural activities that took place at the beginning of the semester, a group of students first met and professed a desire to start something like ducs. This group comprised of five FE students, and was soon expanded to include two SE students. They formed the group later to be called the Initial Core Group. The Initial Core Group approached Mr. Guna Shekhar with their idea, and presented a written proposal on their ideas when asked to do so.

The first proposal resulted in a call for another document giving more details and a list of the resources that would be required to setup such an organization. Additionally, members of the Initial Core Group were invited to a meeting with the Principal to discuss the idea.

The first meeting of the Principal and the Initial Core Group was held after college on 20 March, 2003. Members of the Initial Core Group presented their ideas to the Principal, who then sought to clarify certain aspects of the proposal. Some of the important topics discussed in this meet were the nature of ducs, the activities of ducs, where ducs would fit in with other plans/activities, membership issues for ducs, and allocation of resources for ducs.

As proof-of-concept of ducs, the members of the Initial Core Group unanimously agreed to conduct a gnu/Linux workshop for dbit students that would cover installation, configuration, applications and networking using this operating system.

The Principal also expressed concern over the undemocratic nature of the Initial Core Group. A solution to this problem was discussed and accepted by all. The solution was that a notice would be put up, inviting all students of dbit to attend a meeting which would introduce them to ducs, and invite their participation in the formation of a new Core Group.

The DBIT Undergraduate Computer Society (DUCS) has come a long way from its establishment in 2003 assisting the System Administrators of DBIT to developing and managing projects required for academic purposes of the institute. DUCS has been actively involved behind the scenes providing technical support during the technical festivals of DBIT over the past few years. Other than that, this student body was instrumental in the creation of DBIT projects like Moodle, student feedback system, mail service and our very own college website. The members of DUCS are not only adept in technical aspects but also in management skills thus advising the student council of DBIT from time to time.
